XBM Images

X Bitmaps (XBM) are one of the de-facto formats used by the WWW to display black-and-white or bitmap images. Typically XBM's are used for iconic labels and glyphs that cannot be represented by ISO-LATIN-1 characters.

Unlike most of the other media types listed below, most WWW browsers can display XBM images ``in-line'' with the text of a document, that is text and images are represented on the same page. Many other media types require special ``off-line'' viewers.

Figure 2 shows the Media Browser's XBM display panel and WWWeasel's file selection box displaying all the XBM files in the given directory.
